Electric Heat Pump A heat pump is an all electric system that does not require gas. Both air conditioning and heat run off of electricity. Packaged Heat Pumps: The packaged heat pump is a self-contained unit that allows the compressor, coil and heat exchanger to be located outside your home. The unit uses ductwork to heat and cool your entire home. Split Heat Pump Systems: The split system allows your furnace and coil to be inside your home and the condenser is outside your home. The most common use of this system is for a two-story home. The split system also uses ductwork to heat and cool your entire home. It's not always cheaper to heat with a natural gas furnace!
Dual Fuel Heat Pump A Dual Fuel is an electric heat pump and a gas furnace in one system. In the Tennessee Valley, where temperatures are usually above freezing, a heat pump is the most efficient way to heat your home. When the temperature does drop below freezing, a gas furnace provides heat more economically. By combining the two, you can have the benefits of both systems. How Does it Work? There are advantages and disadvantages to both the heat pump and the gas unit. A dual fuel eliminates the disadvantages by giving you the best of both worlds. The dual fuel system is the most efficient and economical heating-and-cooling systems you can purchase. Why it Costs More? Packaged Gas/Electric Systems A Gas Package Unit is a self-contained outdoor unit that uses natural or propane gas for heat, and electricity for air conditioning. Heating with gas and cooling with electricity gives you the benefits of both worlds. Gas units are available either as split or packaged systems. Heat Pump Mini Split Systems The mini split system is ideal for a sunroom, family room or other addition to your home. This system does not use ductwork to heat or cool, and it may accommodate up to approximately 1200 square feet. What is a SEER Rating?? The seer rating on a unit is its efficiency rating. If you purchase a higher seer rated unit, you can expect to pay more for the unit when purchased. However, it will save you more money on your utility bills as compared to a lower seer rated unit. A lower seer rated unit will cost less than a higher seer rated unit when purchased. A lower seer rated unit is not as efficient and will not save you as much money on your utilities.
